DIY modern christmas decor

Hình ảnh
every year i have the best intentions of rounding up my favourite festive DIY projects but it never happens. this year by some miracle (and by miracle i mean the help of my mum's babysitting) i've actually managed to do it.. hurrah! as you may have guessed i love simple DIY'S with a handmade feel so for the last few years i've focused on modern scandi-inspired makes at christmas. today i'm sharing my some of my most popular projects as i'm sure you've probably missed a few of them in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

natural christmas decorations for your home

Hình ảnh
mantle display  /  the merrythought DIY pine garland  /  tree vase  / christmas table / rosemary garland with december sneaking up on us i thought i'd share some of the things that have been inspiring me lately on pinterest, yes, you guessed it, christmas decor! i've found myself a little torn over our decorations this year, i'm a huge fan of natural decor with lots of greenery and earthy accents. however gabe is coming to an age where he's really starting to understand the excitement of christmas so i feel like i should have some more fun decorations for him.  after talking to james and going back and forward on it we've decided to keep our holiday decor natural, it's just so beautiful and serene and fit's in with our home so well. (however we're going to decorate gabe's room with some fun banners and have a christmas tree full of kitsch colourful decorations for him.. it's all about the compromise right?) now we've made our mind up it'...

DIY modern christmas wreaths

Hình ảnh
christmas fever has well and truly arrived here (in spirit.. i've not put my tree up quite yet aha!) i'm beyond excited to celebrate christmas this year, gabe is nearly 2 and it's just the BEST age, i can't wait to wake up on christmas day and watch him enjoy the holiday festivities with our family.  as always i'm itching to decorate already but i'm showing a little restraint. until dec 1st i'm officially holding off on putting up all my fave decorations, but i made some cute little wreaths that I thought i'd show you ahead of time so you can make them for yourself!  all you need is some wire and foraged pine branches or eucalyptus to make them. you can read the simple wire wreath tutorial i've written over at hunker now! back soon caroline x

a scandinavian inspired christmas table setting

Hình ảnh
the two things i love most about christmas are gift wrapping and laying the table (probably because i love procrastinating over alllll the little details!) last year i put together this  modern table  that was v. clean and white so this year i wanted to do something with a more earthy and romantic scandi vibe.   i think black taper candles are my new seasonal obsession, how cute are they? you can go see the whole tutorial with a bunch of tips for styling it over at hunker .  back soon caroline x

DIY wooden christmas tree

Hình ảnh
oh wow, how is it december already? i've been meaning to share this project for a while and since christmas is sneaking up on us I figured I shouldn't wait any longer! it will be gabe's first christmas and even though he won't remember it i'm still feeling really precious about creating memories with him and have soooooo many things i want to do! (cookie baking, cake decorating, novelty gift wrap... you name it i'm hoping to tick it off my festive wishlist.) i'm a sucker for festive traditions but i also love to make new ones too and having a wooden tree is such a cool alternative for modern homes.

DIY mini christmas wreaths

Hình ảnh
christmas is hands down my favourite time of year. the anticipation and excitement of the festive countdown gets me every time! this year is even more special as it's our first as parents and i'm aiming to get all my preparations done early in an attempt to make it as stress-free and organised as possible (christmas eve shopping will just not fly this year!)

how to make your home smell like christmas.

nothing beats the smell of christmas -those nostalgic scents that remind me of the holiday season and the excitement of my childhood years. usually i'd just stock up on christmas candles but this year i'm trying something a little different... a festive simmer pot.

how to create a modern christmas tablescape

Hình ảnh
one of my favourite holiday traditions is setting the table at christmas, sitting down with family and friends is the most important part of any festive celebrations so i like it to be just right! i can't believe how quickly december has come around this year- do you feel the same?  i thought i'd play around with some simple styling for entertaining at home as it's a lot more fun than my christmas shopping list! it can be easy to get carried away when decorationg so i'm sharing some ideas to keep things nice and classic this year..

DIY mini christmas trees

Hình ảnh
as christmas is only a few days away this is officially the last of my festive DIY's!  these minimal wooden trees are perfect for a modern home. the inspiration came from a novelty cardboard christmas tree i picked up in ikea, it was bright green and made everyone laugh but i liked the simplicity of slotting pieces together to create a basic tree shape. (plus you can fold the pieces flat to store away for next year, perfect for people who don't have much storage space.) you can find the tutorial over on ehow right now, hope you try them! have a wonderful christmas, back soon caroline x

DIY scandi foliage baubles

Hình ảnh
this is a perfect last minute DIY.. cause they take no time to make, hurrah. i love the idea of a more natural and laid back approach to festive decor and these simple baubles add a really lovely element to your tree or hanging displays. (you could even try making mini ones to use as gift toppers... cute overload!) 1. to make your own you simply need to grab some fillable baubles  and some fresh foliage! 2. open your baubles, cut off some foliage, berries or branches and pop them inside. 3. thread some string through the top to hang. told you it was an easy one.. hope you get a chance to make some! back soon caroline x

DIY minimal clay gift tags

Hình ảnh
i like to stash all my presents until christmas eve when i wrap them in a frenzy of paper, ribbon and general excitement! if you haven't wrapped yours either this little DIY is a perfect last minute addition to make your gift wrapping next level uh-mazing.  this isn't just a festive DIY you can make these bad boys all year round for birthdays or weddings. you can also stamp anything you like on them so they're totally customisable.. pretty neat huh? i think what i love most is how simple they are. i love clean and minimal wrap and these work perfectly with my black/white/kraft paper selection! (but hey if you want you could paint or decorate them too..) i promise this is a very easy make- pop over to ehow and find out how to whip up a batch of your own stamped labels! hope you like, back soon caroline x

DIY simple eucalyptus christmas wreath

Hình ảnh
ok so you might have your wreath up already but i figured i'd share this one just in case! i adore the look of natural xmas decorations, nothing beats a fresh hanging wreath. i'm obsessed with eucalyptus, not only does it smell amazing but it lasts for ages. (even when it dries out it still looks great so it's perfect for this DIY.)  if you've never made your own wreath i'll show you just how easy it is... materials: wreath ring fresh foliage  florist wire 1. take a branch of eucalyptus and place it onto the wreath ring.   2. for the first few branches use florist wire to secure the ends of each branch to the ring. 3. continue to add branches of eucalyptus to develop the shape, i tend to work on covering the outside of the ring first. gently weave the branches between the metal spokes. 4. as the wreath becomes fuller you'll feel it's more stable as the branches naturally weave into each other. continue adding foliage until you're happy. (i had some rose...

DIY christmas scened candles

Hình ảnh
candles are a winter essential for me, and what better time to give them than at christmas? if you want to make your festive gifting a little more personal make your own scented candles- i guarantee it's a total winner. i've used warmer scents like orange and cinnamon as well as fresh scents like pine (..cause who doesn't love the smell of a real xmas tree?) so these are super festive smelling! pop over to ehow where i've shared the tutorial to see how simple they are to make. warning: these candles are cute stocking fillers but you'll be tempted to keep them for yourself. back soon caroline x

DIY star + moon tree decorations

Hình ảnh
hey, i had a bunch of christmas DIY's all ready to share with you and then i disappeared for a month and a half, real sorry about that. i had some sad news so i had to take some time away but never fear i'm going to throw xmas projects at you for the next week to make up for it. i'm kinda hoping there are a lot of people (like me) doing everything at the last minute this year! i'm keeping christmas v. simple especially when it comes to decorating. i'm going for a more minimal look which suits my home way better. i decided to make some cute little tree decorations out of my fave material- clay.  these are crazy easy to create.. promise. materials: clay (i used air dry but polymer works too) mini star/moon cookie cutter string rolling pin  1. warm the clay between your hands then roll it out with a rolling pin until it's about 5mm thick. cut out the star and moon shapes with the cookie cutters. 2. cut out a small hole in each decoration. I used a small pen lid (b...
