DIY leather effect clay trinket dish

Hình ảnh
This post is part of a sponsored partnership with Staedtler Do you often find yourself discarding your favourite pieces of jewellery around the house? If your nightly ritual includes leaving your rings and necklaces on your bedside table this is the DIY for you!  I'm guessing you've assumed that this trinket dish is made from some type of leather? Well look again folks, this catch-all dish has been made from clay. (Yes that's right, clay!!!) FIMO has created a leather-effect clay and it's pure GENIUS. Before I tried it I was a little sceptical, I figured it would be strange to work with and wouldn't really look like leather but I was sooooo wrong.  I'm so excited to share this project with you, I'm rarely this excited about a product but this is something special. The beauty of this clay is that once you've baked it becomes flexible. You can bend it, emboss it, cut it and even sew it. (Think of all the things you could make with leather-effect.. key rin...

DIY pegboard shelf

Hình ảnh
i'm a bit of a shelving geek, anyone else? i could literally spend hours arranging trinkets and candles on mine and they're one of my fave DIY's to make. (shelving is a classic weekend DIY project right?)  i've been obsessed with pegboard for years, so cute, so functional what's not to love? (one of my fave DIY's is those giant pegboard walls i keep spying on pinterest.. sadly i don't have enough space in my studio at the minute)  i love this cross between a regular shelf and pegboard, the inspiration came from this  peg shelf on pinterest. what do you think? i wanted to hang it in the kitchen but it doesn't really work with our decor in there so it's now found a home in gabe's nursery. (it fits in with the whole natural wood vibe of that room much better!) it's a really easy project (especially if you get the wood cut for you at your local hardware store.) i've shared the step by step tutorial for the shelf over at hunker  go take a pe...

DIY plywood headboard

Hình ảnh
my love of plywood is still going strong, it's such a beautiful basic to work with and sooooo affordable. if i had the time i'd definitely be looking to replace our kitchen with a ply version but i doubt that'll be happening any time soon so my pinterest board of swoon-worthy  plywood projects will have to suffice for now!  this headboard project is one i've been wanting to try for a long time and i love how it turned out! to see how simple it is to make pop over to hunker  where i'm sharing the full tutorial. are you into plywood as much as me?  back soon caroline x

how to make your home smell like christmas.

Hình ảnh
nothing beats the smell of christmas -those nostalgic scents that remind me of the holiday season and the excitement of my childhood years. usually i'd just stock up on christmas candles but this year i'm trying something a little different... a festive simmer pot.

DIY modern advent calendar

Hình ảnh
i thought it was about time that i put together an advent calendar. usually i'm only really interested in the chocolate filled variety but this year i figured it might be nice to have one that was more decorative to hang up in our home!

DIY mini serving boards

Hình ảnh
i've wanted to make some more terrazzo items since i made my  DIY napkins rings  a while back and it was just as addictive the second time around! i decided to make some little display trays/serving boards that can be used a variety of ways and by keeping the colours neutral i can use them anywhere from the bedroom to the kitchen. since all you need to whip these up is some fimo clay and a few tools they're a cute gift idea for the upcoming festive period too..

DIY wooden candle holder

Hình ảnh
do we really need another candlestick DIY? well it's autumn which means i'm obsessed with lighting candles every evening so it's a big yes from me! (seriously though this is such a quick little project it was impossible to resist)

DIY modern candle holder

Hình ảnh
in between renovating my bathroom and kitchen i've not had much time to work on DIY's but things are a-changing! we've finally finished the bathroom so i'm starting to get back into making projects rather than grouting and tiling (hurrah!!)

6 modern DIY's for your home

Hình ảnh
i love simple and minimal projects so i couldn't resist putting together a round up of some i've come across recently! we started some renovations on our house which is super exciting but i 100% underestimated how long they were going to take, dang. i think we're finally making good progress tho (we almost have a functioning bathroom again) so i'm hoping to be working on some new content again soon, hurrah.

DIY mid century plant stand

Hình ảnh
plants are one of the most important elements in our home, i don't seem to be capable of going through a week without adding another to my collection! i've been meaning to make some plant stands for a long time- i adore the classic standing mid century styles but i wasn't in the mood to cut up all the dowel to make them so when i saw this metal  square planter  on pinterest i knew i could recreate it with wood and make a simple stand that just slotted together- yay!

DIY easy make up storage

Hình ảnh
i may not have the most minimal make up collection but that won't stop me from making some minimal storage for it.. there's nothing worse than having brushes scattered around the bathroom right?

DIY kokedama indoor garden

Hình ảnh
kokedama, sounds cool huh? well it is. it's basically a moss ball that takes the place of a traditional ceramic planter. these little babies are perfect for smaller spaces enabling you to create your own indoor hanging garden.. uh-mazing!

DIY terrazzo napkin rings

Hình ảnh
so terrazzo, when did you become the trendiest thing ever? i've always had a soft spot for the retro marble chip pattern but lately it seems to be popping up everywhere from home decor through to DIY (check out these cool examples from  brittni ,  fran ,  claire  and  marwa !) i'm pretty darn happy about it as it's a fun technique that you can try at home yourself.

DIY geo wall planter

Hình ảnh
after this week's trip to ikea (and the inevitable plant purchases) i've come up with a simple wall planter to house my new additions! this was an off the cuff DIY that actually turned ok... i was initially worried the wood was too thin to support the pots but once they were mounted they were perfect, hurrah!

DIY storage grid

Hình ảnh
sometimes there's nothing as satisfying as a quick DIY and this storage grid totally fits the bill. you may remember i posted this metal  memo board a few years ago but with this version you can store stuff in a handy pocket!

5 tips to help you slow down

Hình ảnh
ever feel like you're frantically rushing around trying to juggle 10 things at once? yup, me too. up until this year i was generally pretty stressed, life felt like it was passing me by whilst i was a ball of anxiety over deadlines and admin. i used to mistake being fast paced for being productive which wasn't always the case... late last year i had to step away from work for nearly two months, up until this point the longest i'd been offline was at maybe a week tops. usually i'd have been concerned about not updating social media or sharing new DIY's but at the time it wasn't a priority. when i returned expecting the worst i discovered nothing had changed. you guys were still here reading (i heart you) my blog was fine, in fact my page views were at times better than ever. it was a massive wake up call. i can see now that a lot of my stress was self imposed. since the start of this year i've given up being worried about catching up on ALL THE STUFF. now i p...

DIY modern magazine shelf

Hình ảnh
when i was younger i lived for buying celebrity gossip magazines (sorry not sorry.) now i prefer to invest in swish interior and travel magazines that i'm loathe to throw away! i'd grown bored of my old DIY magazine racks so i decided i needed a fancy new one to keep everything looking cute.

DIY halloween treat bags

Hình ảnh
my favourite part of halloween is handing out batches of sweets to the kids that come to my door! this year i decided to do something really easy that would make things waaay more fun.  trick or treat bags are the perfect way to package up candy and they're crazy easy to make. (it also means you can hand out an equal amount- i have a tendency to give away half my sweets to the first 10 children that arrive and run out too soon!) they also make cool party favours if you're hosting a ghoulish halloween party. warning: these will pretty much guarantee you'll be the most popular grown up on the block this year. here's a run down of what you'll need: cellophane bags A4 black card stapler craft knife/scissors self adhesive googly eyes self adhesive letters 1. to make the topper cut a square of black card the width of your bags (mine was 12 x 12cm.) you'll be folding it in half to make the topper so measure the bags before you cut it out with a craft knife or scissors....

how to care for indoor plants

Hình ảnh
one of the things that gives me the most happiness at home is my plants. they add life to our space, they improve the air quality and they make me feel more grounded and calm. i have a whole bunch of them and my knack for buying them doesn't seem to be slowing down so i've become pretty competent at keeping things alive! i thought i'd share a few tips that i've learnt on my path to keeping healthy indoor plants. 1. get to know your plants. whenever i buy a plant i google it when i get home- yep seriously. if you're a newbie to keeping plants (or have a talent for killing them) its a good idea to find out what they like from day 1! keep a notebook with the species/name of your plants, how much water they like and what environment they prefer (full sun/shade etc.) i often repot my plants and lose the original labels so if i write it down in a notebook i can check the name and look online if it seems unhappy or isn't growing well later down the line.. 2. how much t...

DIY embroidered cacti purse

Hình ảnh
it's been a while since i picked up a needle and thread but this DIY was the perfect way to get back into the swing of things! i love the embroidered tee's that have been flooding the high street this summer (particularly  brandy melville ) so why not try my own? i wanted to create a simple cacti pattern that i could stitch onto a purse, i'm heading on holiday this weekend and i thought it would make the perfect travel companion!
