DIY modern advent calendar

Hình ảnh
i thought it was about time that i put together an advent calendar. usually i'm only really interested in the chocolate filled variety but this year i figured it might be nice to have one that was more decorative to hang up in our home!

DIY christmas eucalyptus soap

Hình ảnh
i adore making soap for a couple of reasons.. one it's super fun and two they make perfect gifts. when it comes to christmas i'm a big advocate of adding in some handmade presents for a more personal touch.. plus making stuff always gets me really excited for the holiday season!

DIY mini serving boards

Hình ảnh
i've wanted to make some more terrazzo items since i made my  DIY napkins rings  a while back and it was just as addictive the second time around! i decided to make some little display trays/serving boards that can be used a variety of ways and by keeping the colours neutral i can use them anywhere from the bedroom to the kitchen. since all you need to whip these up is some fimo clay and a few tools they're a cute gift idea for the upcoming festive period too..

DIY bead trivet

Hình ảnh
say hello to the quickest DIY ever.. a simple wooden bead coaster for your kitchen! if you're a fan of scandinavian design you'll probably recognise my inspiration from the ferm living  cork trivet. (i've always been tempted to buy one but using up my wooden bead stash was too tempting ...and way cheaper!)

DIY modern candle holder

Hình ảnh
in between renovating my bathroom and kitchen i've not had much time to work on DIY's but things are a-changing! we've finally finished the bathroom so i'm starting to get back into making projects rather than grouting and tiling (hurrah!!)

DIY kokedama indoor garden

Hình ảnh
kokedama, sounds cool huh? well it is. it's basically a moss ball that takes the place of a traditional ceramic planter. these little babies are perfect for smaller spaces enabling you to create your own indoor hanging garden.. uh-mazing!

DIY geo wall planter

Hình ảnh
after this week's trip to ikea (and the inevitable plant purchases) i've come up with a simple wall planter to house my new additions! this was an off the cuff DIY that actually turned ok... i was initially worried the wood was too thin to support the pots but once they were mounted they were perfect, hurrah!

DIY minimal easter eggs

Hình ảnh
i'll confess easter DIY's aren't really my thing. i've never made any in the past and this year was going to be no different... that was until i discovered wooden eggs at a flea market, i though they were too cute to pass up a little spring makeover.

DIY storage grid

4 ways to wrap a flower bouquet

Hình ảnh
i adore giving flowers, whether it's a special occasion or simply just to remind someone i'm thinking about them. with valentines creeping up i figured i'd share some simple ideas to wrap them as they're a super cute galentine gift option for your bff's! here are 4 easy ideas for transforming a plain old supermarket bouquet into a gift with a personal touch (for extra brownie points.) 1. DIY wrapping paper: jazz up some plain gift wrap by splattering it with with an old toothbrush dipped in black acrylic paint. in the above photo i've used white paper as i wanted a modern minimal look but it works really well on brown paper paper too. (just make sure it's dried before you wrap up your flowers!) to wrap the bouquet cut off a rectangle of paper and place the top of your bouquet in one corner. fold the opposite corner up over the stems then wrap the left side over the middle. fold the right side over and tie with string to finish! 2. mini bouquets: these are gr...

DIY charcoal soap

Hình ảnh
i figured i'd start off the week with a super simple DIY. i love making soaps, they make great gifts and you get to melt stuff (which is always high on my agenda.) in the past i've generally stuck to novelty ones like this but today i'm sharing a more grown up version- detox charcoal soap!

DIY simple eucalyptus christmas wreath

Hình ảnh
ok so you might have your wreath up already but i figured i'd share this one just in case! i adore the look of natural xmas decorations, nothing beats a fresh hanging wreath. i'm obsessed with eucalyptus, not only does it smell amazing but it lasts for ages. (even when it dries out it still looks great so it's perfect for this DIY.)  if you've never made your own wreath i'll show you just how easy it is... materials: wreath ring fresh foliage  florist wire 1. take a branch of eucalyptus and place it onto the wreath ring.   2. for the first few branches use florist wire to secure the ends of each branch to the ring. 3. continue to add branches of eucalyptus to develop the shape, i tend to work on covering the outside of the ring first. gently weave the branches between the metal spokes. 4. as the wreath becomes fuller you'll feel it's more stable as the branches naturally weave into each other. continue adding foliage until you're happy. (i had some rose...

DIY christmas scened candles

Hình ảnh
candles are a winter essential for me, and what better time to give them than at christmas? if you want to make your festive gifting a little more personal make your own scented candles- i guarantee it's a total winner. i've used warmer scents like orange and cinnamon as well as fresh scents like pine (..cause who doesn't love the smell of a real xmas tree?) so these are super festive smelling! pop over to ehow where i've shared the tutorial to see how simple they are to make. warning: these candles are cute stocking fillers but you'll be tempted to keep them for yourself. back soon caroline x

DIY star + moon tree decorations

Hình ảnh
hey, i had a bunch of christmas DIY's all ready to share with you and then i disappeared for a month and a half, real sorry about that. i had some sad news so i had to take some time away but never fear i'm going to throw xmas projects at you for the next week to make up for it. i'm kinda hoping there are a lot of people (like me) doing everything at the last minute this year! i'm keeping christmas v. simple especially when it comes to decorating. i'm going for a more minimal look which suits my home way better. i decided to make some cute little tree decorations out of my fave material- clay.  these are crazy easy to create.. promise. materials: clay (i used air dry but polymer works too) mini star/moon cookie cutter string rolling pin  1. warm the clay between your hands then roll it out with a rolling pin until it's about 5mm thick. cut out the star and moon shapes with the cookie cutters. 2. cut out a small hole in each decoration. I used a small pen lid (b...

DIY modern magazine shelf

Hình ảnh
when i was younger i lived for buying celebrity gossip magazines (sorry not sorry.) now i prefer to invest in swish interior and travel magazines that i'm loathe to throw away! i'd grown bored of my old DIY magazine racks so i decided i needed a fancy new one to keep everything looking cute.

DIY bathroom storage shelf

Hình ảnh
i have a new bathroom unit and i think it's mega cute! i wanted to make a shelf to store bathroom essentials- it turned out so nice i thought i'd share it with you.

DIY halloween treat bags

Hình ảnh
my favourite part of halloween is handing out batches of sweets to the kids that come to my door! this year i decided to do something really easy that would make things waaay more fun.  trick or treat bags are the perfect way to package up candy and they're crazy easy to make. (it also means you can hand out an equal amount- i have a tendency to give away half my sweets to the first 10 children that arrive and run out too soon!) they also make cool party favours if you're hosting a ghoulish halloween party. warning: these will pretty much guarantee you'll be the most popular grown up on the block this year. here's a run down of what you'll need: cellophane bags A4 black card stapler craft knife/scissors self adhesive googly eyes self adhesive letters 1. to make the topper cut a square of black card the width of your bags (mine was 12 x 12cm.) you'll be folding it in half to make the topper so measure the bags before you cut it out with a craft knife or scissors....

DIY cat house

Hình ảnh
my first cat DIY, hurrah! i absolutely hate leaving kipper when we go away (even though he's totally spoilt by our cat sitter) so when i returned from our holiday this weekend i decided to build him a snazzy new house! i wanted to keep the design simple and modern, i've used plywood for the house and put a comfy little bed inside that's really easy to make. so far kipper seems to give it the paws up. my box is pretty big because i had a 40x 40cm piece of foam i wanted to use inside (in hindsight you could totally make this house smaller as cats like small spaces- well kipper does anyway?!) i'll give you the dimensions of the wood after it was cut below: base: 40 x 40cm side panels: 40 x 43.5cm back panel: 44 x 44cm top panel: 44 x 43.5cm (with one 45 degree cut edge) front panel: 44 x 46cm (with one 45 degree cut edge) to create the entrance hole you'll need to use a jigsaw (which are good fun!) find the centre of the front panel and use a compass to draw a 20cm cir...
