DIY vinyl record storage

Hình ảnh
since the arrival of our record player i've been hunting for cute ways to display our vinyl. after trying out a few options i decided to make a simple wooden rack to store them.  i much prefer it to the big record units i don't have room for plus it doubles up as a magazine holder/kitchen dish rack if you don't want to use it for records. we all love a multipurpose DIY right? materials: two 40 x 2cm wooden pieces 1cm thick wooden dowel wood glue drill with 1cm wood bit tape measure and pencil hammer 1. take two lengths of wood (mine are 40 x 2cm.) mark a cross every 3.5cm from end to end.  2. drill along the wood where you have previously marked using a 1cm wood bit (make sure the drill bit is the same thickness as the dowel you are using or the pieces won't fit later.) don't drill through the wood and aim to keep the depth of each hole the same. give the holes a rub with sandpaper to smooth. 3. mark another hole on one side 4cm from the top and drill. repeat 4cm fr

styling an acapulco chair at home

Hình ảnh
let me introduce you to my favourite new addition- the acapulco or string chair! this little beauty is my latest obsession. if you're into retro chairs you'll know this style was popular in the 50's/60's and they can be used both inside or outdoors! i wanted to show you a few pictures so you could see how i've styled mine, it's quite an unusual chair but i think they fit effortlessly into a modern home. my chair from  cox and cox * was destined for my living room as it's the perfect match for my fireplace- hurrah. if you've never sat in one before they're actually rather darn comfortable, like sitting in a cocoon that curves around you! (i guess it's the closest i'll get to having a hammock indoors...) grey string chair*  | cox and cox slogan light box | urban outfitters sheepskin throw | ikea record player | urban outfitters  plant stand | ferm living berber rug | john lewis ( similar here ) to style mine i decided to keep it simple, i

oh friday you've been missed. i don't have many plans this weekend which i'm mega excited about, an uneventful weekend is the best sometimes! i'm going to get my eyes tested again tomorrow so i can (finally) get contact lenses- huzzah. i caved and put on my central heating last night, jon snow was right winter is coming so hot chocolate and candle burning is pretty high on my agenda the next few days. i feel like i should go shopping for winter things too, you know like cosy socks and blankets. i get excited about that stuff so maybe i'll sneak that in somewhere...? have a lovely couple of days! -  coolest (+ slightly creepiest) soaps ever. - i can't even, this really tickled me. - leah is making me want to book a road trip. - so bad/good.  - learn how to say no more often! - dang, why can't we vote for her? back soon caroline x

DIY halloween treat bags

Hình ảnh
my favourite part of halloween is handing out batches of sweets to the kids that come to my door! this year i decided to do something really easy that would make things waaay more fun.  trick or treat bags are the perfect way to package up candy and they're crazy easy to make. (it also means you can hand out an equal amount- i have a tendency to give away half my sweets to the first 10 children that arrive and run out too soon!) they also make cool party favours if you're hosting a ghoulish halloween party. warning: these will pretty much guarantee you'll be the most popular grown up on the block this year. here's a run down of what you'll need: cellophane bags A4 black card stapler craft knife/scissors self adhesive googly eyes self adhesive letters 1. to make the topper cut a square of black card the width of your bags (mine was 12 x 12cm.) you'll be folding it in half to make the topper so measure the bags before you cut it out with a craft knife or scissors.

DIY cat house

Hình ảnh
my first cat DIY, hurrah! i absolutely hate leaving kipper when we go away (even though he's totally spoilt by our cat sitter) so when i returned from our holiday this weekend i decided to build him a snazzy new house! i wanted to keep the design simple and modern, i've used plywood for the house and put a comfy little bed inside that's really easy to make. so far kipper seems to give it the paws up. my box is pretty big because i had a 40x 40cm piece of foam i wanted to use inside (in hindsight you could totally make this house smaller as cats like small spaces- well kipper does anyway?!) i'll give you the dimensions of the wood after it was cut below: base: 40 x 40cm side panels: 40 x 43.5cm back panel: 44 x 44cm top panel: 44 x 43.5cm (with one 45 degree cut edge) front panel: 44 x 46cm (with one 45 degree cut edge) to create the entrance hole you'll need to use a jigsaw (which are good fun!) find the centre of the front panel and use a compass to draw a 20cm cir
